Getting out and about on bikes is both great fun and great exercise. More and more people are dusting off their bikes and finding a greener way to explore the borough of Richmond. It is a sport which really has something for everybody. Guide2Richmond has tried to pull to-gether some of the best cycling resources for the Richmond area below.

Cycling in Richmond is a great way to explore the green open spaces and many attractions which the borough has to offer. It can be a way to get away from all or to enjoy a fun day out with friends or family.

The Richmond Cycling Campaign are keen to get people cycling and have introduced a programme of social, easy group rides with no hills. We have linked to some of their great cycling routes at the end of this article. Or plan your own route!

There are free bicycle courses being run by the Safety Education Team available in Richmond Borough. Adult courses are being run in Twickenham during spring and summer evenings. A variety of courses being run include free bicycle maintenance classes.
Cycling courses for children are designed to benefit children  who either live or attend a school in the Borough. There are two types of cycling holiday courses for children offered by the Safety Education Team - they are both free.

Bikeability is also available in the Borough. This is the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads.

Companion Cycling is a charity which enables people with special needs, regardless of their age or ability, to cycle on specially adapted cycles in the peaceful surroundings of Bushy Park in South West London.


Wherever you decide to cycle in Richmond, there are a variety of ways to plan your cycle route. Transport for London have a journey planner for cyclists which enables you to choose quieter roads for your trip. You can also order cycle guide maps for the  Richmond Borough and beyond .

Capital Sport operate gentle cycling tours along the Thames from Richmond to Oxford. Day tours, short breaks and longer tours include cycle hire, route directions and sightseeing details. Both bed and breakfast and hotel accommodation is offered along with luggage transfers and a host. Most tours have self guided itineraries allowing you and your party to travel at your own pace.
