Description:

A Twickenham stadium tour coupled with a tour of the World Rugby Museum is the ultimate experience for the world rugby enthusiast.

Twickenham Stadium or Twickers as it is called colloquially, is the largest rugby union stadium in the United Kingdom and can seat 82,000. This makes it the second largest stadium in the UK after Wembley Stadium and the fourth largest stadium in Europe. The stadium is the home of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), and so is a venue for rugby union and hosts England's home test matches, as well as the Middlesex Sevens, the Guinness Premiership final, the EDF Energy Cup and Heineken Cup matches. The stadium is considered an icon of English rugby and celebrated its centenary in the 2009/2010 season. This 100th anniversary of the first international in 1910 was marked by the England team wearing a special commemorative shirt against Wales on February 6 and by a centenary book called Twickenham - 100 Years of Rugby's HQ.

Because the stadium is owned by the Rugby Football Union it tends to be used solely for rugby as opposed to any other sporting events. The RFU invites the national Rugby union team to play at the stadium and these events are arguably the most prestigious of all rugby games. England is the only country to have a stadium that specialises in rugby and as a result playing at Twickenham is particularly prestigious. The stadium plays host to the 6 nations tournament that takes place every year.

The stadium has also hosted a number of other events, such as concerts by Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Genesis, U2, The Rolling Stones, The Police, Eagles and most recently R.E.M. It has hosted the Rugby League's Challenge Cup final. For over half a century, Twickenham stadium has been used annually to host Conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The stadium is to host a massive charity gig for  Help for Heros in September 2010 where an audience of 72,000 is expected.

Twickenham, the home of England rugby is also where you can find the World Rugby Museum. It  houses the finest collection of rugby memorabilia in the world. The museum opened in 1996 and takes visitors through the history of the sport from its origins to the present day.

More than just a collection of interesting artefacts, the World Rugby Museum is an inspirational journey through the history of the ultimate team game. Innovative, interactive exhibits bring to life some of the great moments of the international game.

Reconstructions of days gone by; the sights, sounds and even smells of rugby football appear throughout. Action-packed films show footage of rugby matches from the very earliest right up to the present day. There is an opportunity to test your strength on the formidable scrum machine!

The World Rugby Museum also operates high quality Stadium Tours. The tour takes you behind the scenes to visit the most exciting and prestigious parts of Twickenham Stadium which includes a visit to the England dressing room and players' tunnel. Visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the stadium from the top of the north stand.
