Description:
An application has been submitted to council for the development of the Barn Elms site which will keep it in the hands of the public for the foreseeable future.
Barn Elms is a public sports area featuring sports facilities for local Barnes and SW13 residents which in 2005 was threatened by the possibility of sale of part of the land to a private leisure club. Local residents fought the sale and years later the plans have been finalised and submitted for approval to the council. The plan is for a sports facility that will feature seventeen pitches versus the current thirteen, running track, two cricket creases and tennis courts, a new pavilion, seventy five new parking spaces and twenty eight cycle park places. Pitches will include eight mini, two junior, five senior football and two rugby union pitches.
Plans for a skatepark are still on-going and a separate application is expected to be made in the future regarding this.
