Description:
The National Archives in Kew, Richmond upon Thames have released the latest batch of UFO files, revealing how 'unexplained aerial phenomena' were taken seriously enough in 1957, that they were discussed by the Cabinet Office's Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC).
There are 18 files in total, released as part of a three-year project between The National Archives and the Ministry of Defence. There are more than 5,000 pages of UFO reports, letters and drawings compiled from correspondence with the public as well as questions raised in parliament.
The files also contain dozens of UFO sightings reported to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) between 1995 and 2003. 1996 alone was a year when there were more than 600 instances of unexplained aerial activity.
You can now discover which part of the country had the most reported UFO sightings and find out more about the terror attack foretold in a dream. Learn about which mysterious objects were tracked by radar and the 100-1 bet on alien life!
Have a read through of the files and see if you can answer Winston Churchill's question in 1952 when he asked, What does all this stuff about flying saucers amount to? What can it mean? What is the truth?
The files are available to download for free for a limited period at nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos.
